Marco Sardelli is 28 years old and boasts the enthusiasm and drive to do better which is so typical of young people. His father Massimo and his uncle Leonardo, who founded the company, are giving him space and he is working to valorize the medium-late strawberries produced at the foothills in Longiano (Emilia Romagna).
Eight punnets for each wooden crate
"The brand is called Fra-Gola. I wanted a packaging solution that valorized quality and we opted for cardboard punnets with a handle, very appealing and environmentally friendly. At the moment they are only used for Sibilla strawberries," explains Sardelli.

The Sardelli company covers over 20 hectares with approximately 50 thousand strawberry plants. The Sibilla and Aprica varieties are cultivated in open fields. "In order to fully valorize the produce, we work with general markets and big retail chains looking for premium produce. Quantities are good, but we want our strawberries to be considered for their high quality within a medium-high price range."
Plants are arranged in single rows, as the Sibilla variety is very vigorous. The harvesting of Aprica started around May 10th and that of Sibilla on May 15th. If the weather does not play up, strawberries will be available until mid-June.
"We work with a close-knit team, which we have trained well as it takes great attention to package these strawberries. I like punnets to be appealing, with strawberries arranged well."

In addition to strawberries, the company grows stone fruit such as peaches, nectarines and apricots. After studying at the Istituto tecnico Agrario in Cesena, Marco chose to work in the family business focusing on innovation. "One must never stay still, evolving to meet market needs is essential."
