US: Parrans Greenhouse delays opening due to lack of workers

“The labor market is so weak, I don’t have enough workers to open”

Parrans Greenhouse and Farms in Ida will reopen its Monroe store for the season when strawberries are ready early next month, says owner Mike Parran.

The store off W. Front St. has delayed its opening this spring due to lack of workers, said Parran, the longtime owner.

“The labor market is so weak, I don’t have enough workers to open,” he said Thursday from the Ida store. “I’m struggling here as well. We just can’t get enough people, for whatever reason.”

Persons can at least 25 and older can apply at the Ida store located at 5355 Secor Rd. The phone number is 269-3610.

He currently has seven people working in the fields in Ida and almost a dozen people working in the greenhouse in Ida, but more help is needed. Parran said he would take applications from youths in high school and college as well, but he said they usually can’t stay the entire summer because they return to school in early August.
