Dovizio F1, higher production, sustainability and quality for all

A date tomato that doesn't de-stem, is tasty and with high yields

"We are directing our production towards a variety of date tomatoes developed for a long-term cultivation. This has led to the creation of Dovizio F1, a cherry tomato which is suitable for transplanting from the end of August until spring, thus providing the conditions for a year-round production," said Giovanni Canino, who is the manager at Sviluppo Sicilia Sud-Ovest of HM.CLAUSE in Sicily.

"The concrete advantages of this variety are a 20% higher yield capacity over the entire season compared to the competitors. Moreover, the fruit keeps its typical elongated and sinuous shape throughout the production cycle, as well as its size and organoleptic characteristics. The plant is robust and can withstand climatic changes. Its foliage ensures good aeration and it produces bunches with a very thick rachis,” said Giovanni Canino.

Giuseppe Puglisi

"The brilliance and color of the fruit, the high resistance to splitting, as well as the good capacity to withstand de-stemming, are other distinctive characteristics which ensure that the cluster is always complete. The Dovizio F1’s sprig makes it easier to be harvested and placed in boxes or trays directly, without additional handling, preventing the loss or dispersion of individual fruits within the packaging," said the HM.CLAUSE’s head of development.

Giuseppe Puglisi, sales engineer of HM.CLAUSE, spoke on the sustainability of Dovizio F1. "The Dovizio F1 is highly resistant (HR) to Fusarium radicis and to all Cladosporium species, and intermediate resistant (IR) to TYLCV, TSWV and nematodes. All of this significantly reduces the use of pesticides. Therefore we have a variety that is sustainable, good to eat and highly productive, thus providing a quality affordable for everyone".

Worthy of mention is the testimony of the Iabichella farm, a greenhouse farm in the Ragusa area of southeastern Sicily, which cultivates the variety.

"I am very impressed not only by the productivity, but also by the overall performance of the Dovizio F1 date variety. The ease of cultivation, processing and management of this date variety has now become a strength of our company," said the owner Emanuele Iabichella.
