Eroski has taken another step in its commitment to organic products by launching a new range of fresh organic products under its own brand. The new range is made up of 19 fruits and vegetables and joins the thirty food products that Eroski Bio and Eroski Eco drugstore recently incorporated.
The organic fruits and vegetables incorporated include oranges, apples, bananas, broccoli, cherry tomato, kiwi, and garlic, while some of the food products that were recently incorporated include canned vegetables, dried legumes, pasta, juices, and cookies.
Eroski is working so that 100% of its brand packaging is 100% recyclable by 2025; thus decreasing the tons of plastic it sells by 20%. That's why 79% of the Eroski Natur Bio fruits and vegetables are sold in bulk and why the company promotes using alternative materials to replace the plastic in the packaging of their other products. In addition, the new range encourages local organic products of national origin.
“The close origin of the products is more respectful to the environment. In addition, it boosts the local productive fabric. It is a key element for sustainability and contributes to employment, the economy, and environmental awareness,” stated the Eroski's director of Health and Sustainability, Alejandro Martínez Berriochoa.
In the coming months, the company will expand its organic assortment with new references and categories. Currently, it offers more than 1,500 manufacturer-brand and own-brand organic products. During 2019, Eroski's range of fresh fruit-and-vegetable sales increased by 25%.
