Smart greenhouse provides Chinese town with fresh veggies

Departing from Zhaojue County in China, heading west along National Highway 356, about 30 minutes' drive, you will arrive at the Fuzhao Modern Agricultural Industrial Park in Sikai Township, Zhaojue County.

This is one of the key projects to help Zhaojue County in Fucheng District, Mianyang City. The park covers an area of over 300 hectares and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. It is currently the largest agricultural industrial park in Liangshan Prefecture.

Inside the smart greenhouse you can find gourds, pumpkins, etc. growing, as well as sweet chards, small tomatoes, etc.

There is a pumpkin that attracts attention, and it can barely be surrounded by two stretching arms. "This pumpkin is 50 kilograms!" said Liao Wei, the park operator and chairman of Zhaojue County Honggu Lada Agriculture Co., Ltd. This is a variety they cultivated, mainly for popular science promotion, so that nearby villagers can understand that vegetables can be grown in this novel and interesting way.

Liao Wei walked to a chard crop and pointed to a black cable near the vegetable leaf. The metal head on the top of the cable is only about 5 cm away from the red vegetable leaf. "It is mainly for monitoring the indoor temperature. If the temperature is low, it will automatically activate the related equipment to heat up for indoor temperature increase." The smart glass greenhouse can monitor various internal environmental data in real-time through the networked control system, and automatically control heat preservation, ventilation, heating, and other facilities. The screen can also automatically open and close to ensure good crop growth.

In order to ensure the quality of seeds, the company also imports peat soil from Latvia and purchases cocopeat from Hainan as an important raw material for soilless cultivation.

According to Liao Wei, all products in the park are grown to order, and the products are generally sold to major supermarkets. "Sam's Club under Wal-Mart buys goods from us. For example, the bell peppers produced in the park can be sold at a good price at Sam's Club. "

The greater contribution of the industrial park is to change the structure of the local agricultural industry. "Before we only grew rice, potato, and buckwheat here, and we didn't have the habit of eating vegetables at all." With the increasing variety of vegetables in the industrial park, many villagers also began to learn to grow other vegetables.

So far, the Fuzhao Modern Agricultural Industrial Park has accumulated more than 1.6 million vegetable seedlings, including lettuce, baby cabbage, sweet pepper, etc., and has sold more than 800 tons of various vegetables.

"The Xizhao Highspeed Way under construction has entrances and exits in Sikai Township." Liao Wei believes that after the highway is opened to traffic, the geographical advantages there will be more obvious, therefore, smart agriculture has a bright future.
