The Turkish city of Kirsehir is rich with geothermal resources and the growers in the city are now looking to utilize these resources with the help of a geothermal greenhouse established in the city. The greenhouse was set up with the support of the local university, which will provide assistance to the growers with production know-how.
The growers expect an annual production of 700,000 tons of tomatoes in geothermal greenhouses. Currently, 195 people are employed in the greenhouses and the employee number is expected to reach 500 in the near future. The greenhouses are built in phases, with the first phase being already completed and operational. The first phase of greenhouses covers around 13 hectares, and when all 3 phases are completed, the greenhouses will cover around 40 hectares.
