According to data from the Food Price Index at Origin and Destination (IPOD) for the month of June, which was prepared by the COAG organization, the price of garlic at its destination was 540% higher than at origin, as farmers were paid 0. 89 euro per kilo at origin and consumers paid 5.70 euro per kilo for this product at the retailers.
Meanwhile, farmers were paid on average 0.15 euro for a kilo of onions in June; while consumers paid 1.15 euro for that same kilo. This means that the onion's value at its destination was 7.67 higher than what producers were paid.
According to the COAG, there was also a significant increase in lettuce prices, which were paid at an average of 0.17 euro per kilo at origin and purchased at 1.30 euro per kilo by the final consumer. The price of eggplants increased by 7.44, from 0.27 euro/kilo at origin to 2.01 euro at its destination.
The organization also highlighted the increase in other products, such as watermelon, which went from 0.19 euro/kilo at origin to 1.21 euro at destination; and potato, which increased by 6.17 times, going from 0.24 euro/kilo paid to producers to 1.48 euro paid by consumers.
In general, the price of agricultural products was 4.48 times higher at its destination than at origin in June.
