Campaign almost coming to an end in Almeria

The fruit and vegetable campaign is coming to an end in Almería. In the greenhouses of Nijar, tomatoes are already finishing their cycle. Although the final batches are still being harvested, many greenhouse crops are not being treated, with the consequent risk of the spread of pests, especially Tuta, which continues to be the most common of all.

In western Almería, some greenhouse peppers are still in production. The rest of the greenhouses are solarizing and preparing the soil. Bell pepper plantations are still active in the areas of Dalías, Berja and Adra. In this region there are still some tomato plantations for the domestic market.

The few eggplant plantations in production are in whitewashed and well-ventilated greenhouses. There is very little cucumber production right now and the harvest is in full swing at spring zucchini plantations. The rest have already been uprooted. Also, the watermelon harvest is as good as over and only a few melon plantations remain to be harvested of the Yellow, Piel de sapo and Galia varieties. In the seedbeds, there are increasingly more plantings of bell peppers.
