Slight improvement for strawberries

"Things are looking up for us strawberry growers in April 2020. After a few tough weeks, demand from the big retail chains and mostly from markets has finally increased slightly," reported Rosa Padula, sales manager for P&G Fruit in Policoro (Matera) and a strawberry producer.

"The recent temperature drop reduced supplies and quotations seem to have increased by 30%."

"We have noticed a bigger interest for local strawberries, especially from markets in central Italy (Rome, Pescara, Florence, etc.). This cannot but please us, especially if we consider that the current health emergency has created a sort of 'commercial hole' throughout March."

"Quality is good with Brix levels around 8.5% and excellent texture. April is therefore an important month for the 2020 strawberry campaign despite the pandemic and restrictions. The Easter period and the good weather all over Italy will determine an additional increase in orders."

"Demand is also on the up for cauliflowers and broccoli, and prices are increasing by as much as 100% due to the limited supplies. Better times will come but, in the meantime, we continue to do what we do best: cultivate the land and pursue the objective of satisfying our clients all over the peninsula."
