Dutch schools combine forces in the All Climate Greenhouse

Recently, the final presentation of the first education project in the All Climate Greenhouse took place. Graduating students from Horti Technics & Management of Lentiz, MBO Westland, together with students from HBO Inholland, presented their findings regarding the cultivation of vine cherry tomatoes of the Xavy variety.

From September 2019 up until January 2020, cultivation under controlled conditions took place in the unique greenhouse at the World Horti Center in the Dutch city of Naaldwijk. This includes the greenhouse being heated by electricity and cooled and dehumidified by using a heat pump.

The All Climate Greenhouse actually consists of two greenhouses: one large greenhouse which forms the outer layer and, in it, a slightly smaller greenhouse with two departments. In the outer greenhouse, a (sub)tropical climate can be recreated, after which the inner greenhouse will be able to research how to optimize the cultivation of a variety of crops in that particular climate.

During the education project, the students received advice from Van der Knaap Group, Hortilux, Axia, and Bom Group, to name just a few. Biobest Group also helped out with biological crop protection and Green Agro Control with the fertilization analysis. All of this with the support of Demokwekerij Westland.
