Fifth graders in Quincy got a lesson in farming. The students spent fall semester outside in the greenhouse. That's where they learned about aquaponics.
Part of this curriculum focuses on access to healthier foods and eliminating food desserts. Plus it gives the kids a chance to learn outside of the classroom.
"The plants and the fish have a symbiotic relationship," said Amya Burns, a 5th grader at Stewart Street Elementary.
This process began back in the fall. Now the students harvested their kale, lettuce and beets.
