According to the data from Faostat, the statistical agency of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), processed by Hortoinfo, in 2018, Dutch lettuce was 759.09% more expensive at origin than the Spanish. Meanwhile, French producers sold their lettuce for 381.82% higher prices than Spanish growers.
Even Turkish producers got more per kilo of lettuce than Spain in 2018 (22.73% more).
Out of all producing countries competing with Spain, the Netherlands was the one selling the most expensive lettuce, with € 1.89 / kg, followed by France with € 1.06 / kg and Portugal with € 0.59 / kg. Spanish lettuce producers obtained an average price of € 0.22 / kg during 2018.
