The domestic cucumber marketing season is coming to an end in Poland, according to EastFruit project analysts. The experts stress that local producers have managed to raise prices almost daily during this last stage of the season. In fact, since the end of the previous week alone, domestic greenhouse cucumbers have seen their prices increase by an average of 15%.
A few days ago, Polish greenhouse cucumber growers were selling the product for $ 1.65-1.91 / kg. According to the producers, not many are still shipping cucumbers in Poland, and the supply on the farms is rapidly declining. This, against the backdrop of a high demand, is allowing producers to raise prices in this segment.
Domestic cucumber prices have also been boosted by the rise in the price of cucumbers from Spain, which during this period are the most common in the Polish market. In the first weeks alone, Spanish prices have risen by an average of 27%, and at the moment, the product is sold for $ 1.16-1.68 / kg.
It is worth noting that, despite the rise in prices, greenhouse cucumbers in Poland are still on average 21% cheaper than in the same period last year. Market players also don't rule out the possibility of a halt in the price increases in the near future, as Polish retailers have already started showing their preference for cheaper products from Spain.
