US (NC): New educational greenhouse coming to Newland next spring

A new educational greenhouse is coming to Heritage Park in Newland.

The Avery Journal reports an $18,000 grant will cover most of the cost of a new 26-48 foot greenhouse for the Avery County Cooperative Extension.

According to the report, Extension Executive Director Jerry Moody said some additional fundraising will cover the remaining cost of the project.

There will be lettuce, microgreens, tomatoes, cucumbers and a large number of non-edibles grown in the greenhouse, which will also be used for Christmas tree research, a place for 4-H kids to do projects, and will be used to educate the public about greenhouses in general.
