Sanliurfa governor Abdullah Erin has instructed municipality officials to allocate treasury lands for the construction of new geothermal greenhouses in order to aid the development of the greenhouse production in the city.
Governor Erin: “We are planning to start a state company and to accelerate geothermal greenhouse investments in our city. Greenhouse investments in our city are also supported financially by the state’s Karacaadag Development Agency. This meeting is taking place right now with important stakeholders to assess the current status of the project which consists of constructing 100 hectares of greenhouses in Karaali and Tuzluca districts in Sanliurfa. Currently, feasibility studies are still underway and we are looking for the best ways to utilize geothermal resources in the area to lower production costs.
Turkey is the leader in the world in geothermal greenhouses with 450 hectares and is also 4th in geothermal electricity generation with 1.400 megawatts of annual production. Public investments in geothermal greenhouses set an example for the rest of industry and usually, private investment follow these and that’s how geothermal greenhouse production in Turkey is taking off.”
