Turkey: University in Kirsehir taking lead to develop geothermal greenhouse production in the city

Kirsehir Ahi Evran University Dean Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya: “The geothermal greenhouse we are building as a part of the pilot projects and initiatives undertaken by the university will hopefully set an example for the growers in the area and bring many investors to our city.

The construction for the greenhouse is ongoing and we have prepared 7 different pilot projects in the area of agriculture after our university has been selected by the Higher Board of Education for agricultural projects and initiatives.

The first greenhouse will be 1.535 square meters big with 6 soilless production areas and 1 production area with soil. We will try different products in the greenhouse and we will also train personnel so they can be employed in the greenhouses in our city. We are hoping that this initiative will create jobs for 500 people. Our focus as a university in this project is research and development. We will explore new production methods and high-tech equipment to increase productivity as much as possible and then transfer our know-how to the growers in the area.“
