CAN (BC): Sea to Sky Soils earns AgSafe safety Certificate of Recognition

Sea to Sky Soils has successfully completed AgSafeBC’s safety Certificate of Recognition program to become COR certified.

Sea to Sky Soils enrolled in AgSafeBC’s COR program with a goal to improve worker safety. Working with one of AgSafeBC’s Lower Mainland safety advisors, the company reviewed and assessed their workplace safety management program to determine where improvements or changes were needed in order to become COR certified.

Sea to Sky Soils supports local food production through cradle to cradle composting while closing the recycling loop. The company provides stable, high quality soils, compost and landscape materials to farmers, home gardeners, landscapers and developers, while diverting tens of thousands of tons per year from the landfill. The company works in partnership with the Líl̓wat Nation in Mount Currie, British Columbia, and employs eight full time members from the community.

The Certificate of Recognition program is an incentive program that recognizes and rewards employers for implementing an effective Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program and demonstrating a commitment to workplace health and safety.

AgSafeBC is the WorkSafeBC COR Certifying Partner for British Columbia’s agricultural and associated industries. AgSafeBC offers a Certificate of Recognition (COR) program for large and small employers.

Wendy Bennett, AgSafeBC Executive Director, said: “The COR program is a natural extension of the company’s existing health and safety program. Our regional safety consultants and advisors will help you review and assess your safety program and determine if it’s the right time to take part in the COR program. The program rewards employers who are committed to reducing workplace injuries and encourage worker participation in the process.”

Jaye-Jay Berggren, Sea to Sky Soils Director/Operator, added: “Sea to Sky Soils is grateful for the opportunity to work with AgSafeBC. The assigned safety advisor was very cooperative and gave us a solid understanding associated with the downstream value of safety for small businesses. This program now provides Sea to Sky Soils with the ability to consistently manage, monitor and improve our workplace safety. The entire team is proud of this official recognition and we look forward to continuing to improve the company’s overall health and safety program. We highly recommend this to any eligible employer!”
