The quota amounts to 285,000 tons

Morocco has used up the quota to export tomatoes to the EU

The agreement for the export of tomatoes signed between the EU and Morocco established a maximum export quota, set at 285,000 tons. According to the information published by the General Directorate of Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission, in this tomato export season, which started on October 1 (week 40) and lasted until May 31 (week 22), Morocco has exported the entire authorized quota.

This has been reported in the latest Bulletin on protected horticulture prepared by the Prices and Markets Observatory of the Andalusian Council of Agriculture, in which the performance of fruits and vegetables grown under plastic during weeks 22 and 23 has been analyzed.

At this time of the year, in early June, Almería significantly reduces the supply of tomatoes, which leads to a notable rise in the prices at origin. This is also the moment in which summer tomato productions gradually start to arrive.

In June, most European countries have their own productions, so the export of Andalusian tomatoes loses ground and the Spanish domestic market plays a crucial role as a recipient of the tomatoes produced in Andalusia.
