Prices on locally produced tomatoes go down in Poland

An analysis from East-Fruit reports a dramatic drop in tomato prices in Poland. According to representatives of Polish greenhouse growers, supplies in the local market are currently significantly exceeding the demand.

Within the past weekend the tomato prices dropped by 18%. As the market players are noting, the current situation is first of all related to the market glut as the result of which the distribution speed has become rather low.

However, it should be noted that currently the prices are shaped practically within the same range as in the same period of last year. The growers do not exclude the fact that they might lower the prices further as, due to distribution challenges, they have accumulated a relatively big amount of stock products. Therefore, the representatives of Polish greenhouses will be willing to drop the prices further, in an attempt to enhance sales.

It is highly improbable to unburden the Polish tomato market by increasing supplies to neighboring regions as similar tendencies are being witnessed in the Ukraine, Moldova and other countries because of constantly growing amounts of vegetables produced locally.
