Weed control in organic crops is one of the practices that is more costly and energy consuming. Weeds are the main competitors of a crop and, if disregarded, can lead to losing it.
This risk is higher for baby leafs as, as they are mainly grown repeatedly and intensively in greenhouses, it is not possible to apply all agronomic weed control practices (ploughing, false seed beds, cover crops).
Up until now, evolution and technology helped control weeds only in crops with "standard" rows, while little could be done for baby leafs due to their sowing layout and delicate superficial root system.
GARFORD overhauls baby leaf cultivation techniques with Robocrop Baby Leaf Hoe, a high-precision weeder created purposely for baby leafs. It is a highly-technological innovative machine featuring the Robocrop system which, thanks to a camera, identifies rows already during the early stages of plant development and managed the machine keeping the weeding blades between the rows even of there are less than 5 cm between them.
Robocrop Baby Leaf Hoe is equipped with specific weeding blades created to operate in narrow spaces without being invasive and fully respecting root systems, as they work at the depth necessary to uproot weeds without lifting the soil.
The machine can also be equipped with a harrowing system that further airs the roots of the weeds in addition to loosening the soil so as to make harvesting easier.
Robocrop Baby Leaf Hoe is a valid help for organic crops as it enables the mechanical control of weeds while respecting the crops, ventilating the soil and maintaining the sowing bed unaltered.
