The helpful insects behind blackberry cultivation

In mid-January, the spring cultivation of blackberries under glass started at Van de Bosch in Berkel and Rodenrijs (Netherlands). At the end of February they started releasing various types of biological protection products from Koppert Biological Systems such as Thripex-Plus bags (N. cucumeris) against thrips and the new Spical Ulti-Mite bags (N. californicus) against the red spider mite.

According to Koppert, the new Spical Ulti-Mite bags work great even in extreme humidity and temperatures. To fight aphids they use Aphidend (A. aphidimyza), and the bumblebees are already busy flying around and pollinating flowers.
