Turkish government pays 5 million USD for greenhouse hurricane and flood damages

Turkey Minister of Agricultural Bekir Pakdemirli: “We have increased the inspections on intermediaries to control the price levels of fresh produce at the market place.

Additionally we have started insurance payments to growers to cover their damages sustained during hurricane and flood in Antalya during January. So far we have paid 1,380 growers around 5 million USD as a part of the state’s insurance system. We had received 4,188 damage incident reports of agricultural production areas after the hurricane, so far we covered a significant part of the damages as we started off with paying the growers with the most damage.

We believe Turkey has a very good position in the global agricultural market however there is still plenty of room for improvement and we can be one of the market leaders in agricultural production in the world.

There are natural price fluctuations in the market due to seasonal effects and climate conditions however we are also conducting inspections on intermediaries to ensure that supply flows to the market without a problem. “
