Aart Jan Bos, Beekenkamp Verpakkingen:

"Developments in internal transport systems require new containers"

Harvest and package products, stack crates, unstack crates and put on conveyor belts... the internal transport within companies is becoming increasingly important, and this requires an efficient internal transport system and packaging.

The low and medium high transport containers of Beekenkamp Verpakkingen recently got a new lay-out. Aart Jan Bos, general sales manager: "We have made adjustments so our containers fit the current transport systems better. Containers with a smooth underside are often used for chain systems and transport belts require containers with a ribbed underside for better traction. Transport systems are completely designed for these containers. That is why our containers weigh the same as the Europool containers, so they are interchangeable."

BE-Cube
A recent addition to the transport storage system of Beekenkamp is the BE-Cube, a foldable pallet box system. Aart Jan: "This can be simply calculated, particularly for longer distances. The system is mostly used for the transport of seeds, onions, carrots, corn, and garlic. With the BE-Cube, we anticipate the increasing attention for efficient transport. Folded, nine pieces fit a pallet place. Hygiene is also an important issue. This system makes changing big bags very easy."

Three years ago, the BE-Cube was introduced by Beekenkamp, and two years ago the BE-Cube was nominated for the Fruit Logistica Innovation Award.

Seed trays
For Beekenkamp Planten, the producer of packing started working with an over-sized seeding tray. Aart Jan: "For the production of cabbage we were looking for a tray that could fit more plants. The existing seed tray has room for 260 and this one, with the same tray size, has room for 280. It seamlessly fits in the accompanying tray holder. Because the volume soil per plant is a bit less, the cultivation is better manageable.

Before, a heavy single-use tray was used multiple times, but this new tray could well last up to 10-15 years. The tray is made of polypropylene and can be cleaned by steam if necessary. Now Beekenkamp Plants has been using them for two years, other plant cultivators become interested. We have a couple of nice orders coming."
