Reflectors are used to direct the grow light into the crop. Each type of reflector has the right hardness (which benefits the lifespan) and reflects at the maximum (which benefits the production). The material of all reflectors is high quality, but nevertheless there is always loss of efficiency.
Megaphoton presents a solution for this: a lamp with a built-in reflector. At the HortiContact, which will take place in Gorinchem (Netherlands), the company will present this new 1000W lamp: the IRS Fixture.
Robert Jan de Goey, Megaphoton: "This lamp provides up to 15% more light. The silver coating is applied to the inside of the lamp - hence the name IRS - Internal Reflector Silver coating. That way we achieve an efficiency of 99.8%. The silver particles of the coating are very close together, ensuring an optimal reflection. Because of our specific design, the reflected light no longer passes through the lamp itself, but by-passes it, which also improves the lifespan. An additional advantage is that the reflectors never have to be washed again, which every year is quite a job for the grower."

In recent years Megaphoton has not been idle with this development. In Canada, several large growers have already switched to these new fixtures. In Russia, Magnit has been running a test for three seasons with 5,000 lamps and is very satisfied with it. "This grower has now ordered 34,000 units of this type of 'Internal Reflector' luminaires from us," says Robert.
