Largest “greenhouse” vegetable producing companies in the world

From a listing of over 2100 worldwide “greenhouse” vegetable producing companies in 107 countries, the top 10 growers by size are located in just 7 countries. For this determination “greenhouse” includes all “protected agriculture” producers of vegetables. The countries, in alphabetical order are: China, France, Israel, Mexico, Morocco, and The Netherlands.

From available data, the largest company in the world is Vicasol, a co-op located in Spain, with 1800 ha (4448 ac.) of protected vegetable production. The second largest is Le Gaga with 1671 ha (4129 ac.) in China. The third largest is Group Azura with 751 ha (1856 ac.) in Morocco.

The source of this information is the 2019 edition of “World Greenhouse Vegetable Companies”. This latest edition has information and contact links for 2131 companies in 107 countries. The listing includes 1560 of the world’s producers, all with individual greenhouse area and contact information. These producers represent 24588 hectares (60,701 acres) of world-wide greenhouse vegetable production area. 

An additional 571 growers in 53 countries are listed with contact information, but without a known greenhouse size. 

Specific email addresses or phone numbers are included for 1891 companies. All data entries were rechecked and revised as of January 2019.

The 2019 edition of the specific North American-only growers’ publication is also now available. This listing has information for 894 companies in Canada, Mexico, and the USA. The USA and Canadian companies are indexed by state/province. These growers represent 6235 hectares (15398 acres) of North American greenhouse vegetable production area.
