Spain: Canary tomato growers receive 8.7 M€ in overdue Posei aid

The Council of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands has published the definitive resolution of the additional Posei aid for export tomato producers corresponding to the 2011 campaign, which entails the payment of 8.7 million Euro. This means that the Government's commitment to pay the program's overdue amounts has been met. A total of 140 producers, grouped in Fruit and Vegetable Producers' Organizations, will benefit from these funds.

Councilor Narvay Quintero reported that all overdue payments to all eligible subsectors, not just for 2011, but for the period from 2011 to 2016, have now been paid out.

"This has required the investment of more than 30 million Euro of our own funds and confirms the commitment of President Fernando Clavijo and his team to the primary sector of the Canary Islands, to which it promised taking charge of all outstanding aid payments before the end of his mandate," said the counselor.
