Former Prime Minister of Canada joins cannabis company

Acreage Holdings, one of the United States’ largest vertically integrated, multi-state cannabis operators, announced as part of its pending Canadian public transaction that former Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney, will be offered a seat on the Board of Directors upon the close of the transaction in November. Upon the close of the transaction, Acreage will become a Canadian public company domiciled in British Columbia and publicly traded on the Canadian Stock Exchange (CSE). Upon acceptance, he would join former Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner, former Governor of Massachusetts William Weld, former Chairman and CEO of tw telecom (formerly Time Warner Telecom) Larissa Herda, and former IBM Chief Financial Officer Douglas Maine, on the public Acreage Board.

Mr. Mulroney will help Acreage deliver on its mission to enable access to safe, predictable cannabis products, including medical cannabis, bringing with him decades of experience working with world leaders in business and government to shape important multinational policy.

Having served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1993, his government introduced new initiatives such as the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and the Canada-U.S. Acid Rain Treaty. Mr. Mulroney also introduced a series of privatizations, a low inflation policy, historic tax reform, and extensive deregulation and expenditure reduction policies.

Mr. Mulroney also served as Co-Chairman of the United Nations World Summit for Children, and his government played leading roles in the campaign against apartheid in South Africa, the creation of Le Sommet de la Francophonie, and the Gulf War.

Mr. Mulroney is currently a senior partner at the Montreal law firm Norton Rose Fulbright and brings his extensive business acumen to Board positions at Quebecor Inc. (Montreal), The Blackstone Group L.P. (New York), and Wyndham Worldwide Corporation (New Jersey).

Mr. Mulroney said: “I am pleased that Canada has taken a leadership role in this field in North America and I’m encouraged about the prospects of what the end of prohibition today will mean for the country. As Acreage continues to grow, I hope my background will prove helpful in its mission of ensuring all Americans who need it can safely and legally use cannabis.”

On the appointment of Mr. Mulroney, Acreage Founder and CEO Kevin Murphy said, “We welcome Prime Minister Mulroney to our Board. The critical insights he will provide will help us succeed in bringing compassionate care to all of those in need.”
