Selected annually by the Meriden Farmers Market Advisory Committee, the Market Master ensures the smooth and effective weekly operation of the market, serving as (day-of) event administrator, overseeing general market supervision of activities.
“We are delighted to sign on Trifecta Ecosystems as our new Market Master,” Mike Rohde, president of Meriden Farmers Market, says of the first-year vendor. “As farmers themselves, they have a deep and personal connection to the farming industry and they share our mission of providing healthier food options for the families and seniors we serve. We look forward to an exciting future together.”
Owners Spencer Curry (CEO), Kieran Foran (CMO), and Eric Francis (COO) describe aquaponics as the combination of growing fish, plants, and beneficial bacteria in an enclosed ecosystem, where fish provide waste for bacteria, which is then converted into nutrients for plants.
“Our company is focused on helping to strengthen our local food ecosystem in a variety of ways,” says Francis. “Whether it’s our indoor aquaponics farm (on Pratt Street, Meriden) or the curriculum and programming we have created for schools and nonprofits, we want to do our part in creating a successful food ecosystem in Meriden and beyond.”
“Taking on the role of the Market Master enables us to continue on that path,” Francis adds, “but more importantly, the market allows us to interact with more local residents who are seeking out locally grown foods.”
Emphasizing the Connecticut grown, food-to-table experience and local small business empowerment, the Meriden Farmers Market features a variety of regional vendors in a family-friendly atmosphere, featuring fresh produce, specialty foods, arts and crafts, music, and entertainment. Funding is provided in part by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture through the Community Investment Act.
