Enhanced growing system with new gutter type

Green Automation announced the introduction of new technologically advanced enhancements to their patented automated growing systems for hydroponic lettuce production. The latest upgrades focus specifically on the growing lines, creating a more robust system which allows for increased precision, ease of operation and less scheduled maintenance. Increasing the durability of the system further, makes it possible to design longer and larger greenhouse growing lines. In addition, a new gutter type is now available for growing herbs and lettuces in large pots.

All new product improvements are now in operation at customer facilities in Europe and the United States.

"Being a high-tech industrial automation company, we always find ways to further develop our system to make higher yields and more efficiency possible for our customers" said Tero Laakso, COO, Green Automation Export.

Growing line enhancements
New features include a space-efficient harvesting end conveyor belt system as well as a gear-driven gutter moving mechanism allowing for longer growing lines to be designed, resulting in increased gutter capacity and lettuce yield.

For layouts with the optional lower level germination area, a new more precise electric elevator, moving the gutters from the lower germination level to the growing line, has been introduced.

New 4" (105 mm) gutter for larger pots
Green Automation's "Living Lettuce & Herb" Gutter System allows for efficient growing of lettuce heads and herbs in 3" (75mm) gutters.

For new client DeliVerde in Finland, for whom growing herbs in large pots was a key requirement, Green Automation responded by developing wide gutters enabling efficient growing of large pots of up to 4" (105mm).

Systems in operation in Europe and USA
The newly enhanced growing lines as well as herb gutters have been operating at DeliVerde in Turku, Finland since early 2018. "Our company is small and flexible, and our delivery is efficient. Our produce is harvested on the basis of orders received and is delivered immediately to customers all over Finland. We have high quality standards and needed a reliable growing system that would meet our needs and enable us to grow our operations further", says Liisa Lindroth at DeliVerde.

The upgraded lines were recently introduced to the North American market. Green Automation's Baby Leaf system has been successfully utilized by Little Leaf Farms in Massachusetts since 2016. Little Leaf Farms has just completed their first greenhouse expansion which has doubled their growing area to a total of five acres (2 hectare) and are the first in North America to install the upgraded growing lines.

"A highly automated growing system is important for our operation. Expanding with the Green Automation technology was a logical step when addressing the increased customer demand for tasty, fresh and locally grown lettuce." said Paul Sellew, CEO and Co-Founder of Little Leaf Farms.
