LED or HPS, make the right decision

Aruna Lighting from Breda (Netherlands) hosts Mrs. Leora Radetsky on Thursday June 21st. Leora Radetsky is an independent research scientist at the Lighting Research Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. The research compares a dozen LED fixtures with HPS fixtures. The research focusses on establishing a method to compare, in an objective way, various lighting installations. The conclusion of the research indicates that for glass greenhouses, HPS technology is yet still in favor.

Jeroen van Velzen of Aruna Lighting: “It is a great honor to host Mrs. Leora Radetsky. Her research shows that with choosing the right lighting installation for the greenhouse, there is a lot more going on than just the efficacy of the fixture. Many manufacturers confuse buyers with lots of figures, however the reality in the field can be quite different”. Van Velzen means the general focus on fixture efficacy, while also size of the fixture, total light output, cost price and even in some cases the useful heat radiation are important to factor in as well when making choices for lighting equipment.

“LED lighting offers many new different possibilities for the horticulture; however, we should not be blinded by this. The reality in glass greenhouses is that for many situations, the HPS lighting is still the best choice due to its high light output, compact fixtures, advantageous heat radiation and low cost per micromole”, says van Velzen.

Aruna Lighting invites everyone in the horticulture industry that is making choices for the lighting equipment or is busy in the field of horticulture lighting to join the presentation of Leora Radetsky at GFIA. The presentation will further explain most important aspects of lighting and presents a method to compare objectively. The conclusions of the research will also be presented in detail. After the presentation, there is a possibility to discuss further in the booth of Aruna Lighting. The presentation is in English.

The presentation is due on Thursday June 21st, 13:45, during the GFIA Europe 2018 at the Jaarbeurs Utrecht. Subscribe through this link: http://www.gfiaeurope.com.
