ZVG calls for uniform regulations for ground-based greenhouse cultivation
The Central Association of Horticulture eV (ZVG) welcomes the fact that the organic production of kitchen herbs in pots is also allowed in the future. In addition to this, the ZVG had decisively thwarted the original demands that 80 percent of the earth in the pots must come from the company's own organic production unit or from the nearest organic production facility.
"This would be practically impossible for our companies to implement. We welcome the fact that the new regulations provide for exceptions regarding pot plant production," said ZVG General Secretary Bertram Fleischer.
Unsatisfactory are the exceptions to soil cultivation in greenhouse growing, which are limited to a few Nordic countries. Here, the ZVG had demanded a general opening for soil-independent cultivation in organic substrates. Basically, the association's position is that under-glass cultivation in organic substrates should be allowed as an ecological production process. The ZVG expects that the review, which is scheduled to be completed by 31 December 2025, will ensure uniform regulation for the EU.
