Italy: Two tornadoes damage businesses in Sicily

On 25th March 2018, a tornado (or maybe two) has hit various companies causing a lot of damage in southeastern Sicily. The area affected is not very large, but everything was destroyed.

The areas most affected was that between the Pachino and Noto municipalities, the Portopalo municipality near Isola delle Correnti and that between the Noto and Ispica municipality.

Local institutions have asked for the state of natural disaster to be declared.

Climate change is increasingly causing damage not only to crops, but even to the facilities. They are of course built to withstand ordinary weather phenomena such as heavy rain and strong winds, but nothing can be done against exceptional events.

Once again, we can see how climate change has become an additional item to consider in the company budget. In the past, the State and Region provided compensation, but it's no longer possible to ask for it. The only thing left, for those businesses that can afford it, is to be insured against natural disasters. In difficult times such as these, businesses that manage not to close down should be helped by the Institutions.

Climatologists are clear about it: extreme weather events will be more and more frequent and periods of drought will be longer. Not to talk about devastating cloudbursts and tornadoes.
