UK: Outdoor and Protected Leafy Salad Technical Day

Due to the weather conditions last week, the Outdoor Leafy Salads Technical Day was cancelled. AHDB have decided to merge this event with the pre-planned Protected Leafy Salads Technical Day, to allow growers unable to attend last week's event to catch up on the latest industry research.

The Outdoor and Protected Leafy Salads Technical Day will be a chance for growers across the industry to catch up on the latest research developments in crop protection and production, with bespoke presentations relevant to the different growing systems.

The day will begin with discussions for all, with updates on lettuce Fusarium wilt, crop protection and breeding for improved lettuce quality. In the afternoon growers will be split into their relevant crop situations:
  • Outdoor growers will go on a short facilities tour, exploring biopesticides, hydroponics and LEDs. Rosemary Collier will update growers on bean seed fly research, followed by a discussion from John Elphinstone on soil health.
  • Protected growers will initially be updated on spray applications and lessons from the AMBER project, followed by a CHAP facilities tour, focusing on biopesticides, hydroponics and LEDs.
Attendance is likely to be high at this event, the deadline for bookings will be Thursday 15 March. Should this event be oversubscribed, growers will be given first priority for places. If you are already booked onto the original Protected Leafy Salads Day, you do not need to re-book.
