US (TX): Learn about the essential components of aquaponics
The seminar is free and open to the public.
Dr. Joe Masabni, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service small-acreage horticulturist, Overton, said the seminar will begin with a classroom presentation by discussing the principles, practices and components of aquaponics.
“We’ll discuss the fish, bacteria and plants, what I like to call the essential components, like a three-legged stool of aquaponics and how they work together. Because it can’t work if one leg is not working correctly,” he said.
Masabni said the seminar will be followed by a tour of his greenhouse aquaponics system at the center. He is currently growing bok choy over a system filled with tilapia and will discuss the challenges of maintaining a system and answer questions.
“It’s a good opportunity for anyone who is interested to come see a working system and learn about what works best for growing vegetables with aquaponics,” he said.
