Pakistan: Punjab announces subsidies on tunnel farms

In Pakistan, tunnel farming technologies for vegetable production has gained popularity among small growers and farmers in the Punjab area. Over 1,500 small farmers already have adopted tunnel farming and more farmers are considering to do so.

For this reason, the Punjab government has decided to provide 50 percent subsidy on installation of tunnel farming technologies in the province.

The per acre yield of vegetables cultivated under tunnel farming technology is much higher as compared to traditional farming. Therefore, the government believes that this technology would not only help in improving the economic conditions of the grower community but also bring revolutionary changes in the agriculture sector while people would be able to get off season vegetables round the year.
