"Spain: The situation of AgrupaEjido's workers is "unsustainable"

Almost a year and a half since AgrupaEjido filed its bankruptcy, the situation of the company's workers was addressed in a statement of the Federation of Industry and Agrarian Workers (Fitag) of the union UGT Almería and of the company committee of AgrupaEjido Pandal. Both parties denounced the situation that the workers are experiencing, mainly as regards the limitation of their working days. Union representatives explained that these last two campaigns have been "very tough," and according to the information provided by UGT and the company committee, "the workforce has worked very few hours, failing to reach even the minimum set in the Collective agreement, which translates into rock bottom wages."

According to the details offered, "this situation is causing the campaigns to be very short." To date, "there are still 25 discontinuous permanent workers who have not been called to work, who do not have any type of income, having exhausted the unemployment benefits," insisted the trade union representatives.

Fitag UGT Almería and the company committee of AgrupaEjido Pandal assured that, during this time, they held "many meetings with the company's management, and in none of them were any solutions provided beyond commitments that were not met." They also assure that "a compromise was reached with the management of AgrupaEjido Pandal to negotiate voluntary agreements with the workers that have not been adhered to."

Faced with this situation, which they consider "unsustainable," Fitag UGT and the company committee have called for "an urgent solution, both for the workers who are already on duty, but with a low workload, and for those who have not yet been called."

Lastly, the trade union representatives announced that they will take all necessary actions to try protecting the employees of this horticultural product marketer and ensure they are not "the ones suffering the consequences of this anomalous situation."
