Terpenes are an almost ubiquitous group of organic metabolites, produced mostly by plants, but also by some insects. Most of the terpenes found in flowers are aromatic and contribute heavily to the smells we associate with flowers both Cannabis and otherwise. Although these aromas contribute to the commercial quality of various flowers, it’s not the smells that have sparked recent interest in Cannabis terpenes. Potential medical applications of these terpenes have become known, and serious investigations are just beginning.
This experiment provides an analysis of terpene production in flowers resulting from the use of spectral control at the end of the flowering cycle. Effects on cannabinoid content are also noted.
