Miss Perfect was recently declared the most flavourful tomato by a Norwegian newspaper. Since then, the tomato has been in the spotlight regularly, and according to Paul van de Mierop of Den Berk Delice it was time for a new and more luxurious packaging. This was presented during the Fruit Attraction 2016 in Madrid, Spain, at the booth of Cooperative Hoogstraten. “It is a flowpack that is partially transparent, meaning the Miss Perfect remains very visible. The Miss Perfect promotion is printed on a white part at the top and bottom. The tomatoes have recently been sold by various customers in this packaging.”
Various specials and packaging were presented during the Fruit Attraction 2016.

BellinoThe small tomato Sweetelle under brand Bellino is cultivated by Den Berk and supplied by Cooperative Hoogstraten. This is also offered in various packagings. Jan Engelen explains: “We have many possibilities for the specials. By now, everyone knows the shaker, before that, the triangle-shaped, plastic packaging was very popular. That has by now almost completely disappeared, and that could also happen to the shaker. Nowadays, we have many new possibilities, such as cardboard dishes or upright, plastic pouches, which can also be carried very easily.” Bellino increases annually, and in 2017, the area will be 21.5 hectares. “The majority of this tomato is exported, especially Germany is an important buyer.”
Will the shaker disappear?
Tomato juice in three colours
Den Berk Delice will soon introduce something else. “We recently decided that we are going to find a better destination for tomatoes in times of surplus. It is intended to ‘protect’ the market in certain periods with a higher production, so that prices will not decrease too much. We will produce juice from the surplus of tomatoes in three colours, red, yellow and orange. We intend to offer all three in a set.”
