Aldi publish sustainability reports for the first time

For the first time in the history of the business the German company groups Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd are both providing a sustainability report. The two internationally active discounters inform based on the globally recognised guidelines of the 'Global Reporting Initiative' (GRI G4) on social and ecological responsibility in their core activities, as throughout the entire value chain.

Simple and transparent: this is how Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd report comprehensively on their engagement as far as company responsibility in 18 countries is concerned for the first time. "Taking responsibility has been a given at Aldi from the start. Our activities in this area have been summarised in our sustainability reports and made generally accessible," says Rayk Mende, director of Corporate Responsibility of the company group Aldi Nord. "The sustainability reports are a milestone and the starting point for further dialogue with interested parties."

The reports give comprehensive information on important themes that are of great importance to those concerned. Transparency and and traceability, social and ecological standards within the supply chain, brands and certificates, food donations, the conservation of resources in the fields of packaging and recycling and measures to improve energy efficiency are part of this. The contents reflect what has been achieved so far and provides a view of the future as far as sustainable development is concerned.
