Online shopping options for consumers:

Swedish retailer teams up with dinner kit provider

With more and more busy consumers doing their shopping online, Swedish retailer Hemköp has announced that they now plan on launching pre-planned meal options this August, followed by a click and collect program in September.

The chain will be working together with the established dinner kit company Middagsfrid, who will help design dinner kits exclusively for Hemköp. A variety of different options will be available to suit all types of consumers. They are looking into providing an organic meal plan, along with an option for families with small children, just to name a few.

"Middagsfrid is a natural partner when we decided to develop our own shopping bags for our own clients. They have a food philosophy and a sustainability mindset that is very close to ours," said Hemköp's president Thomas Gäreskog.

The pre-planned meal bags will provide the exact amounts for what is needed for the recipes, thus eliminating the possibility of food waste.

"The idea behind our e-commerce options will be to celebrate the joy of food with will culinary inspiration, but also by offering affordability and simplicity at the same time. We want to create the same feeling that out customers have when they shop in our stores," said Gäreskog.

"We know there is a demand from our customers for both of these services, which is why I am twice as happy that we are moving in this new direction."

The click and collect grocery program will be starting in three stores locations; Torsplan, Djurgårdsstaden and Stäket. Customers will have the option of collecting their groceries at the store or choose to have them delivered at home for a small fee.

In 2015, Swedish online food sales increased by 39% and it is predicted that this year will see an increase of an additional 38%, according to HUI Research. The increase already reached 32% in the first quarter of 2016. Dinner Solutions have seen an increase of 21 percent, while loose grocery sales increased by 43% during the same period.
