Going Dutch with screen installations in Zeeland

In the Netherlands, and especially the province of Zeeland, people are thrifty, it is often said. But the people of Zeeland do invest a lot in screen installations. Peter Dekker Installaties has mounted quite a few square meters of screen installations in Terneuzen in recent years.

Since 2012
PDI’s Zeeland adventure began in 2012, with the second phase of Gebr. van Duin. It involved a greenhouse of 2 ha in which PDI mounted a single screen installation. At the end of 2013 the 4Evergreen brothers ended up in Terneuzen. They bought an existing tomato nursery consisting of 10 ha and turned it into a pepper nursery. In this greenhouse PDI mounted a second screen installation.

In 2014, the men of the Verenigde Groenten Tuinders [United Fruit Growers] came to Terneuzen. VGT bought a plot of 30 ha. Phase 1 was built in 2014: a greenhouse of 15 ha in which a double screen (total 30 ha) was installed. In 2015 Gebr. van Duin completed their final stage, adding a greenhouse and a 2 ha screen.

36 ha of cloth this year
This year a lot of construction is being done in Terneuzen as well. VGT is building its Phase 2 which will again require 30 ha of screen cloth. Next to the existing greenhouse 4Evergreen is adding a new one of 18 ha. This will also be fitted with a double screen, which equates to 36 ha of PDI screen installations.

In total 66 ha of cloth will be mounted in Westdorpe this year, bringing the overall total since 2012 to 110 ha of installed screen. "Returning to the statement - long may the Zeeland people remain ‘thrifty’," the company says.
