A.M.A. Plastics upgrades its organic Ellepots
Denmark’s Ellegaard A/S, their paper supplier, has produced a Hydroponic Paper certified by Washington State Department of Agriculture as complying with the USDA National Organics Standards (7 CFR Part 205) as a Crop Production Aid for use in Organic Agriculture. In addition, this paper carries the European DIN CERTCO compostability certification as being compliant with Standards DIN EN 13432 & ASTM D6400. This paper is suited to greenhouse production only with respect to organic certification, but it is a big step forward for greenhouse vegetable growers in particular. Ellepots by A.M.A. can be produced with an organic mix certified by Quebec Vrai.
Ellegaard’s newly certified Hydroponic Paper allows a crop to be disposed of at the end of the production cycle along with the Ellepot in a composting facility (one Ellepot used for the seedling and perhaps a larger one as a block in place of a typical cube). If the grower uses A.M.A.’s compostable twine and tomato clips, all of it – vines, twine, clips and Ellepot and perhaps the unsheathed substrate slabs as well - can be composted. This is a step forward in sustainability with efficient, organic production possible for tomato, cucumber, pepper, eggplant and leafy vegetable growers, start to finish. It brings new opportunities to organic growers, including the expanding strawberry and medicinal marijuana industries.
