AU: Early work visa changes hit Valley's organic farms

Changes to holiday work visa arrangements that affect organic farmers have been brought forward, angering one local operator.

A report on local radio said the Solum Farm, at Mororo, said the decision would drastically reduce the farm's capacity to supply food to the local community.

The farm's owner, Mike Smith, told ABC Radio the Federal Government had indicated changes to its sc417 visa program would not be made until Christmas.

But a change brought in on August 31, which discounts allowing voluntary work to count toward the 88 days of work required to extend the visa by a year, had caused severe disruption to his farm.
