New FilmProtect fastening system:

Improved bubble film application provides more protection and stability

Bubble films are a common way to realize substantial energy savings in greenhouse operations. However, bubble films are known to be susceptible to a few issues; weak spots at the points where the film is attached to the structure decrease the lifetime. This is why TGU recently developed the stabilization belt ‘FilmProtect’, which improves the life cycle of bubble film in greenhouses in two different ways.

Last year TGU GmbH & Co. KG already optimized the functionality of bubble film in greenhouses by introducing the new Film Fastener Type ll. With the newly developed stabilization belt ‘FilmProtect’, TGU proceeds to offer solutions for as many as two commonly occurring issues within bubble film insolation practices in greenhouses.

No more film tears

The friction on the bubble wrap creates a weak spot on the clamping point on the film. The film is being bent and therefore thinner on that exact spot. Now this spot creates a higher risk, that the film will tear. Especially with the thinner bubble film of the newer generation, these issues seem to be occurring more frequently and influence the lower durability of the films.

TGU’s stabilization belt therefore offers a higher protection because it is pushed onto the lower part of the film fastener and on top of the film, before the upper part of the film fastener is being screwed onto the lower film fastener. Which means that the friction now occurs on the belt. Hence the film is not affected by the friction anymore.

More stability during storms and winds

Additionally, ‘FilmProtect’ offers further benefits on windy days. Wind sets the bubble wrap into motion. The motion tears and wears the film on the spots where it is hooked onto the film fastener. If the bubble film tears on these clamping points, the flagging motion increases and more spots unhook from the fixation spots. With the stabilization belt ‘FilmProtect’ the flagging and consequently the strain
on the bubble film will be minimized.

As of today the stabilization belt ‘FilmProtect’ is available at TGU.
