A.M.A. learns more about plants and soils during BVB College

A.M.A. Plastics Ltd.’s Janan Alles, Shawn Mallen, Connie & Rick Bradt attended BVB College with other BVB Substrates distributors in the first week of June. The intensive, week long program held at BVB facilities in De Lier and Grubbenvorst, NL included technical seminars on plant physiology, importance of and varieties of peat and coir substrates, soil amendments, Urbanscape Green Roof Systems and more.

There were also several visits to growers of various crops including soft fruits, mushrooms, nursery stock, potted plants and a chrysanthemum propagator. Plenty of open discussion allowed the group to learn from practises in other regions.

A.M.A. has been a BVB Substrates partner since 2010 and offers specialized substrates for growers across Canada and the U.S.A. A.M.A. has been particularly successful with BVB Sublime polyurethane foam substrate for leafy vegetable crops; BVB Strawberry Grow Bags; bulk coir for specialty applications; and custom mixes for specific plant types. BVB is well known in Europe for paying special attention to a grower’s very specific needs, growing conditions and growing style.

BVB’s recent introduction of BVB Impress®, a revision of the traditional black peat used in peat block substrates, offers significant savings on freight and opens new applications for this airy, but firm substrate, alleviating the decline in the availability of black peat. Urbanscape Green Roof Systems offer significant weight reduction in the roofing substrates while maintaining a large water capacity. Urbanscape also offers much faster installation, reducing project cost.
