Josef Steiner:

Germany:Tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumbers on 200,000 square meters

When it comes to dimensions, Josef Steiner's Kirchweidach horticultural company is already in a league of its own. Now however, the Austrian wants to almost double the area in the southern district again – and that in a very short time. The additional area should already be planted around the turn of the year.

7.8 hectares – 78000 square meters – are being added. Up until now, a twelve hectare section has been reserved purely for tomatoes. The bell peppers will be in the new area on around 5.3 hectares. On the remaining new area, Steiner wants to try out a third vegetable: snack cucumbers, which will, like tomatoes and bell peppers, be sold in REWE markets under the brand Rewe-Regional

The first top layer of the cultivation areas has already been cleared up. By the end of the year everything should be finished. Steiner and his associates have set aside between 12 and 13 million Euro for this. 40 to 50 workplaces have also been provided.
