Belgium: 33,000m2 expansion for Tomabel grower Franky Galle

Franky and Els Galle Vanackere have been growing tomatoes under the label Tomabel, and are located in West Flanders. As a small boy, Franky learned the trade from his father Dirk, setting up his own business independently in 1993 with a greenhouse of 12,000 sqm. He speaks about the recent expansion of the company.

Franky: “We’ve actually been expanding over the years. In 1996, we added 4,000 sqm, in 2003 a further 10,000 sqm and two years ago Havecon built another 16,000 sqm, we have had good experiences with the builder.”

Last year saw the launch of another extension. "For years we have been working to obtain a building permit on a plot fairly close to our current location. We were finally able to build a greenhouse there 2 years ago, and it’s recently been equipped with lighting. All preparations were made to facilitate Havecon with the extension."

Franky: “The decision to work with Havecon again was obvious. Our experience with them has been excellent so far. Due to problems with the building permit we had to construct in winter, so work had to be solid." The 33,000 sqm greenhouse is now complete. “The construction went really smoothly and without any problems. We expect the first tomato plants any day now.”
