How does the excesses policy at FloraHolland work?
The figures do not show it, but every clock grower gets that funny feeling once in awhile. Suddenly, someone initiates a deal that is not normally there, and puts pressure on the prices.
For example, around the holidays or when direct transactions are cancelled. Many growers believe that it must be possible to turn away that type of clock supply or limit its impact at least. That is why FloraHolland has an excesses policy. How does it work and what do we think of it?

"If we had had this excesses policy last year, it would have saved us so much trouble as growers of Kalanchoe. At certain times there was a supply presented to the clock which would now be considered an excess. At the end of last year, I attended a presentation on the current excesses policy and it looked good. I thought it could be even stricter, and I still hold that opinion. Luckily, we grow a year-round product, so excesses due to the influence of the weather or the season occur to a lesser extent. It is great that action is being taken to achieve harmony between the auctioneers at the different export locations regarding this matter. I still feel that there is too much leeway in the description of the excesses. Based on the current calculation method and counting of points, too much is still not considered an excess although it is one in the FPC's judgement."
