DNA Green Group and Rijnplant finalize acquisition

DNA Green Group and Rijnplant announced today that the acquisition of Rijnplant by DNA Green Group has been finalized. The breeding and propagation activities in pot and cut anthurium, bougainvillea and heliconia will transfer to DNA Green Group. Now, both parties can focus on realizing their intended synergies.

Rijnplant, led by multiple generations of the entrepreneurial Van Rijn family, has a long and rich history. Aad van der Lem, Managing Director, speaks to the acquisition and future: “Rijnplant has successfully expanded its activities internationally; especially in growth markets like Asia and America. Last year, the company was showing strong signs of recovery. During the finalization of the deal, we have been able to take a look behind the scenes at DNA Green Group. I am confident that the combination of these two companies offers growth potential and innovative strength worldwide.”

Biense Visser, CEO of DNA Green Group: “Now the closing of the deal has been finalized, we will start integrating the breeding and propagation activities immediately. We are focusing on realizing synergies in terms of technology, production and sales. Over time, we will be looking for a different solution for the production of flowering plants; for the location as well as the people. We miss the strategic fit with our core activities.”
DNA Green Group is one of the leading companies in breeding and development of cut flowers, potted plants, bedding plants and perennials. DNA Green Group was the result of the merger between Dümmen Group and Agribio Group in 2013. The turnover in 2014 was €170 million. The company employs more than 6,000 people worldwide. Next to a large marketing and sales network, DNA Green Group also has a strong network of production locations. The key to the success of the company is a wide and deep product range that is supported by a global supply chain. The company embraces its social responsibility and invests in the health, safety and personal development of the employees.

Rijnplant Breeding is headquartered in De Lier, the Netherlands and employs 78 people worldwide. The company specializes in breeding, propagation and growing young plants of anthurium, bougainvillea and heliconia varieties. Rijnplant sells these products worldwide. The most important markets – next to the Netherlands – are USA, China, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South America. Rijnplant also produces anthurium and bougainvillea for national and international garden centers, florists, DIY-stores and supermarkets. The main production locations for Rijnplant are Berckenrode in Honselersdijk, Hofzicht in De Lier and Rijnplant China in Shanghai.
