Two new designs for WUR research facilities in Middle East

Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture is involved in the creation of two research centers in the Middle East (United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia). In both countries, food safety plays an increasingly important role, and the intended centers are meant to facilitate research in this field.

The design for Abu Dhabi

The realisation of the centers is done in several stages. In cooperation with end users, the research agenda is drawn up for the coming years. Based on this agenda and other constraints such as the budget, the centers are designed by Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture.

The proposed design in Saudi Arabia

Water-efficient food production is the main research topic in the Middle East. In this, substrate cultivation with reuse of drainage water is obviously vital. The cooling of greenhouses in these regions typically results in high water consumption. Different cooling systems are scientifically compared, allowing for a valid economic assessment.
